Total Health Tennis is the culmination of my two passions - health and tennis!
As an avid recreational tennis player and a fan of the sport, I know firsthand that improving your game takes a lot of time and practice. And while lessons and training are essential to these improvements, one aspect that is often overlooked in improving on court is optimizing your health off the court.
I work with tennis players of all ages and skill levels, from elite juniors with goals of winning tournaments and scholarships, to older men and women who have just picked up the game as a way to stay healthy and active as they age.
While individual treatment plans will vary depending on factors such as age, activity level, and goals, there are several aspects that we will look at to optimize your health off the court to improve your game on the court:
Diet / Nutrition
Nutrition provides the foundation for our health, and can be the difference between having the energy and stamina to win a tournament or not.
Assessment includes:
Nutritional symptom questionnaire - helps identify potential nutrient deficiencies and digestive function
3 Day Food Log - using an app to track everything you eat and drink to assess for macronutrient composition (carbs, proteins, fats) as well as timing of food intake
Blood Testing - basic blood work including iron levels, Vitamin B12, thyroid function - to ensure optimal levels for performance
Sleep
Adequate sleep is essential for optimal health, and is even more important for high performance athletes and teens who are still in the rapid growth and development phase.
Assessment includes:
Sleep & Energy levels questionnaire - determines both quantity and quality of sleep
Sleep tracking - using an app to determine adequate phases of sleep (REM / Non-REM)
Mental State, Stress, & Mindfulness
One of the most critical factors in improving your game is the one that is most often overlooked - the mental side. Working on mindfulness and breathing helps tennis performance, reduces stress and anxiety, and boosts confidence and well-being off the court.
